This April, the 10th edition of the European Union of Associations of Translation Companies conference will be held. While last year it was in Juan les Pins, France, this year it will be in Lisbon hosted by Apet; the Portuguese Association of Translation Companies and this year’s main topic will be management and sales.
Many important speakers are invited and many topics will be treated like: Quality analysis, recruitment and training policies, how to motivate your staff, market development, machine translation and much more. This year the EUATC conference will include Webinars and Master classes about subjects like sales & online sales, management and technology like hybrid language translation technologies and machine translation. And there is a demo organized about the science behind large-scale machine translation.
Some of the big translation company sponsors are speaking but also many small businesses as well as individual professional translators and interpreters will attend and contribute. You can attend to discussions about upholding of traditional values like quality, working under time pressure or price pressure and its consequences for quality. Translation companies are defending their values and are lobbying for regulations that protect them because the industry keeps on growing every year while the quality is difficult to measure; there is a lack of objective references.
Around the central events there people hold their informal meetings Portuguese food as well and social meetings and of course it wouldn’t be complete without Port wine tasting
